Biography
Who is EOW?
For over four years End of the Weak (EOW) has been a driving force in the New York City hip-hop scene. With their hands in just about everything, they have been operating as a multi-faceted entertainment company, record label, and collective of MCs.
EOW was initially conceived in August of 2000, by the late, great DJ Joey Ty. Joey wanted to start an open mic event at a time when there was no consistent venue for live hip-hop, and he envisioned a place where creativity and originality would be fostered; a place where up and coming artists could build with veteran MCs in a movement to change the status quo. He enlisted three veteran MCs, Big Zoo of Solid Ground, and Vice Verses and Prolific Wone of i.2.i., to host the event.
Unfortunately, Joey Ty passed on that same summer before seeing his vision come to fruition. However the idea behind that was to become EOW lived on, and with the addition of DJ Scram Jones, End of the Weak was born. The open mic grew steadily, attracting some of the top talent in the area, and eventually had to move to a larger venue, The Pyramid, where it continues to this day. It is currently the longest running weekly open mic in the world, having rocked every Sunday night for over 208 consecutive weeks (as of August 22nd, 2004).
In 2001, EOW??™s success led the dedicated crew to incorporate as an entertainment company and record label. That fall they released their first compilation album, "Special Forces" in a limited edition that has now become a much sought after collector??™s item. Shortly thereafter, they released the debut album from Webbafied, entitled "DemoGraphix".
That same year, EOW gave birth to the most elite form of MC competition, the EOW MC Challenge. Conceived as the anti-battle, it is a pentathlon of events testing each facet of a real MC. To date, there have been 21 MC Challenges, and three Challenge of Champions (the champions being C-Rayz Walz, Breez Evahflowin and Chocolate Tai), as well as numerous exhibition Challenges.
In the summer of 2002, E.O.W. released their debut 12" vinyl, "Black Ops", and promoted it on a national tour with stops in Philadelphia, Detroit, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and at Chicago??™s famous House of Blues. That winter, E.O.W. opened its professional recording studio, The Dojo (10 Jay Street), in the DUMBO area of Brooklyn.
E.O.W. finished off 2003 correct, releasing its second compilation album "Definition" and a series of monthly mixtapes featuring live performances and exclusive singles. In the meantime, E.O.W. keeps doing what it??™s always been doing: bringing the end of the weak minds, end of the weak lyrics, and the end of the weak spirits.
